Facebook: 5 Mitt Romney Branding Errors on Facebook

Facebook’s “About’ sections have a way of getting neglected. And Mitt Romney is no exception. Section contains at least 5 major branding misses. Here’s what we can learn:

1. Ender’s Game and Battlefield Earth? I bet you didn’t know the Mormon millionaire was such a nerd. The Sci-Fi affinity also comes out under favorite films, where he lists Star Wars and Raiders  of the Lost Ark.

2. Mitt’s musical tastes officially define him as the whitest person in the world. Even country music fans don’t like Clint Black.

3. Mitt’s okay with blue-state shows like Modern Family, 30 Rock and Seinfeld.

4. He loves music, movies and Myspace. His profile includes an old Myspace account from 2008, three Internet streaming services and an inexplicable link to IMDB.

5. Fields for religion and work history are both left blank, whereas Barack Obama’s page identifies him as a “Christian.”

SCREENSHOTS: Facebook Surveying iPhone Users on Mobile Experience

As far as I know, Facebook does not regularly survey average users on their experience. With that said, I logged in last night and was prompted to take a nine-question survey. 7/9 were about it’s lovely iOS app.

It’d be interesting to see the data from this, but likely results will stay locked up in Facebooklandia. We already know that ads are coming to mobile, and rumor has it a new app will be here by the end of July. How will Facebook integrates ads if an overwhelming majority of users is already dissatisfied with their mobile experience?

One of the last questions asked, “What is your favorite mobile application (not including Facebook)?” It probably wasn’t necessary to go through the trouble of excluding themselves, though. Who in their right mind would say Facebook is their favorite app?

How To: Change Facebook Page Name… Even With 100+ Fans

Remember how you could only edit a Facebook Page name if it was “liked” by fewer than 100 people? Well, not anymore. There’s a feature where you seem to be able to “submit” a Page change request to Facebook. This is only available for certain accounts, and may still be in beta-testing, but I thought I’d put it to the test!

Here’s how it works:

1. Make sure your page has been converted to the new design and your timeline has been “published.” (This will happen automatically on March 30, 2012).

2. Open the admin panel at the top of the page and select the “Help” tab on the toolbar in the upper right-hand corner of your screen.

3. Scroll down and select “Request a name change for your Page.”‘
4. Enter in the correct information into the three fields on the next page. Select either “My business name has changed” or “My Page name is misspelled.”

5. A confirmation message appears, and Facebook promises to review your request and contact you via email. We’ll see what happens!

6. As promised, I promptly received the email from “The Facebook Team” shortly thereafter. The sending address was info+mn3mnrr.aeawr37tfu@support.facebook.com.

I have included the text below:

We may be able to assist you with this request. In order to update your Page name, please make sure to provide the following information:

If you selected, “My Page name has changed,” please make sure that you have attached documentation showing your new business name as well as its address. An example of this is a utility or phone bill.

If you selected, “My Page name is misspelled,” sit tight and we will get to your request as soon as possible.

Please note these changes may take up to 3 days to process. We apologize for any inconvenience.

The Facebook Team

I’m glad I selected the “misspelled” option. I guess I’ll know in three days whether it works or now. Has anybody else tried it yet?
